Getting Active and making a difference in your area
The ellenor hospice charity (based in Gravesend) provides care to local patients of all ages and their families facing life limiting and terminal illnesses.
Lots of the care they give is in the comfort and security of the patient’s own home. They provide specialist palliative care, respite, day therapy, play and music therapy, physiotherapy and counselling too.
ellenor is not part of the NHS, it depends entirely on donations from the local community to fund it's vital work. We are delighted to have lots of local charities on board like ellenor for the Get Active in Ebbsfleet challenge.
I wanted to hear directly from the charity about the impact it has for them to be involved with BetterPoints, I spoke to Leah Poppy - Area Fundraiser for ellenor and asked about their involvement with our app and whether they have any specific fundraising targets for the year:
"We have lots of our supporters participate in challenge events (whether organised by ellenor or hosted by third parties that ellenor have places at). We also have to raise a certain amount each year as it costs ellenor £6.9 million to run each year.
For BetterPoints users it is so easy to get active and then donate some or all of their BetterPoints to many charities like ellenor. We also asked Leah why BetterPoints is such a good source of donations for them:
Betterpoints is a great source of income for ellenor as we are able to promote healthy living and lifestyle while also receiving much needed funds from the local community."

How do I donate my BetterPoints?
That's easy, track your activities using the BetterPoints app, and then visit the donate tab and choose the cause you would like to contribute towards and the amount of points.
We then transfer the points to the organisation once it reaches at least 20,000.
So far BetterPoints users have donated over £550 worth of points to ellenor alone.
